Linda Danielson

Linda Danielson fiddles for dances–contra dances, English and Scottish country dances,  in a variety of duos and bands scattered from Eugene to Seattle. She performs Celtic and Scandinavian music in a duo with harper Janet Naylor, and plays with a Douglas County cowgirl band, the Slow Ponies, and plays a country-toward-bluegrass repertory with The Annie Rhodes Band. Though not much given to playing in contests, Linda and fellow-instructor Carol Ann Wheeler once held the Oregon State Twin-Fiddling championship.

Retired from twenty-five years of teaching composition, folklore, and American Indian literature at Lane Community College in Eugene, Linda now teaches fiddle privately. For eighteen years she taught basic beginning fiddle at Alasdair Fraser’s Valley of the Moon School of Scottish Fiddling. She has performed for the Oregon Council for the Humanities Chautauqua series, assembled a collection of recorded interviews and music of Oregon’s old-time fiddlers (collection now housed in the Library of Congress and in the Lane County Historical Museum).

One of her favorite musical adventures involved passing a fiddle back and forth, trading tunes with a Maya priest in a little village in the Yucatan. Then there was the trip to Japan with a group of Scottish country dancers—the tour ended with a performance at the Tokyo Scottish Highland Games.
